I noticed that the Herring Gulls were hanging around the Common Mergansers in the East River. It seems that the gulls like to steal the fish caught by the Mergansers.

I took this picture from a jetty that juts out into the Atlantic Ocean where there were strong currents and breaking waves. It was a bit challenging for me to get up onto the jetty with all my equipment and then get set to to take this picture before the birds moved on. But well worth the ordeal to capture such a lovely bird.

I can’t help but love the “accidents” that occur when doing photography. In this case the beautiful blue color reflected in the water enhances the similar blue color of the Ruddy duck beak.
