Skippers (family Hesperidae) make up roughly one third of all the butterfly species in North America. Sometimes regarded as distinct from true butterflies, they differ in having the club of the antenna bent, with a narrow extension (apiculus) in most species and in details of the wing veins. Most skippers have stout bodies, wide heads, and relatively small wings, and many of them are very fast flyers.

Stuyvesant Cove is a small local park in the East Village right on the East River. Much care is taken in the landscaping and excellent gardening and there are many wildflowers and special trees. Northern Pearly-eye Butterly

During the Summer months, the opportunity to photograph birds slows down for awhile and the butterflies and dragon flies are abundant. We are loving to go to Ward Pound Ridge in Westchester to photograph this beautiful creatures. We went to Ward Pound Ridge last Friday and practically had the park to ourselves.
