It might seem that this picture was a lucky accident. I took lots of pictures of the Snow Geese in flight. There were hundreds of Snow Geese at Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge this past Saturday.

One of the major joys of visiting and taking pictures at the Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge is the abundance and variety of birds all year round. I do like having the pair of Dark-eyed Junco birds because of the shapes it creates in the picture and how it really enhances the depth of field.

I spent this past Saturday and Sunday at the Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge where there was lots of activity wtih many types of birds. There were a large variety of ducks and waterbirds, many Hawks and lots of Yellow-rumped Warblers and Kinglets. The fall foliage was spectacular in the clear crisp cool weather.

I have never seen so many Yellow-rumped Warblers in one day as I did at Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge this past Saturday giving me lots of photo ops. I have read reports all over the city of the large numbers of migrating Yellow-rumped Warblers. They are nicknamed “butter butt” for obvious reasons.
